Special Broaching
If you require a special broaching operation, let Hassay Savage create a complete system of broaching that provides an expert engineering solution to your application. When our tooling is being used in your facility, we give you 100 percent technical service and commitment to assure you the built-in profitability of a Hassay Savage broaching tool.
How to Specify a Special Broach
We simply need to obtain the following criteria to begin analyzing your broaching requirements. Together we can then configure the proper components toward successfully achieving the best solution.
- A complete dimensioned blueprint of the workpiece on which the broaching tool is to be used.
- Type of material to be broached and condition of hole or surface before broaching.
- Description of the cut that the tool will take (length, size, depth, tolerances).
- Surface finish of the part.
- Production rate required.
- Type of machine on which the broach will be used.
- Any other special requirements.
Our engineering department will analyze your requirements and create a tool design for you assisted by our CAD system. Our statistical process control system monitors your broaching tool's progress from start to finish. It covers order entry, engineering, routing, computer scheduling, and the human factors involved in producing tools in the most effective time-sequence. Throughout that process our consumer service people can update the progress of your order by our tracking system that interfaces production and process control. Because each operation performed is time-recorded, we are accurately controlling the cost of the tooling while being able to keep both you and us immediately informed.

Engineering
Lubrication
- STEEL: A good grade of cutting oil, or water soluble coolant.
- BRASS-BRONZE: Broach brass without lubricants: For bronze, oil or soluble oil is recommended.
- CAST IRON: Broach without lubricants. Use oil to lubricate between broach and shim or bushing.
- ALUMINUM: Special lubricants required, depending on nature of the aluminum alloy. Harder varieties may be treated as soft steel. In general, the alloy manufacturer's recommendation for low-speed machining operations should be followed.
